LABUAN: Director General of Labuan Offshore Financial Services Authority (LOFSA), Dato Azizan Abdul Rahman has received a ‘bonus’ for excellent service when his tenure has been extended for another two years.

According to a statement issued yesterday, the extension was to take effect July 1. Azizan has held the post as Director General since 2005.

He started his career in the Banking Supervision Department of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) in 1979, spanning several positions in the areas of finance, supervision and examination. While at the BNM, he served as a member of the Boards and investment committee of several government bodies.

Currently, he is a Board Member and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Labuan Corporation and serves as Exco member of the Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre.

A graduate with a Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Accounting from the University of Malaya and Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Queensland, Australia, Azizan has overseen the realization of several key initiatives to position Labuan as a premier international business and financial centre, including the rebranding of the island in January 2008 as Labuan International Business and Financial Centre (IBFC), establishment of a separate entity that undertakes its promotion and marketing, as well as the flexibility of co-location for Labuan holding companies in Kuala Lumpur as part of the national financial liberalization measures.

Under his leadership, LOFSA had also taken a holistic review of the legislative framework designed to create a flexible, facilitative and frictionless business environment in Labuan IBFC.
